Geeveston
William Geeves landed in the colony in 1842 and settled immediately in the township that was then known as Lightwood Bottom, and would later take his families name in 1888. William Geeves would not allow a hotel within the town boundary, so the Kermandie Hotel was built just outside of the town boundaries.
Geeveston is Tasmanias Forest Town, with a history intimately connected to Tasmanias timber industries. In the town centre youll find the fascinating Forest and Heritage Centre, featuring displays about forests and offering a range of quality timber crafts and products.
Dotted around Geeveston are statues and carvings telling the story of the regions founding people and industiries. You wont have to wander far to find fine foods, coffee, fine furniture, gifts and crafts.
